MIAMs

A Mediation Information Assessment Meeting is the first step — a confidential one-to-one conversation about your individual circumstances.

Anyone considering an application to a family court is required to attend a MIAM, giving you the opportunity to explore agreed solutions without the stress and expense of court proceedings. It is completely confidential and allows you to consider all options regarding decisions over your children and property.

Joint Mediation Sessions

Once both parties have attended a MIAM, the next step — when you feel ready — is to arrange a joint mediation session. These usually last 90 minutes, giving you time to talk through all the issues you are facing in a calm and neutral setting.

The number of sessions required depends on the issues to consider, but agreements are typically reached in 2 to 4 sessions.

Lasting Agreements

Once you have made decisions and assessed your financial needs and both parties are in agreement, I provide two documents: a Memorandum of Understanding and an Open Financial Statement.

Should you wish, your solicitor can use these to generate a legally binding consent order.

Online & In-Person Mediation

MIAMs are generally carried out online, making them as convenient as possible wherever you are in the country.

For joint sessions you also have the option of seeing me in person. In-person mediation is available at meeting rooms in Wincanton and Yeovil, at an additional cost of £50 in total.

I am based on the Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire border and cover the wider region.
